Did you know that more than half of women entering the system are mothers? Did you know that the number of women in prison in the US has increased by 800% since the beginning of the War on Drugs?
Join us for a Legislative Luncheon at the Statehouse Atrium on May 19th, 11:30am - 1pm hosted by Accompanying Returning Citizens with Hope (ARCH). Please RSVP here.* Seats are limited. This luncheon will focus on broad issues and pending legislation related to key topics like bail reform, incentives for programming, early release, and record sealing.
We are reaching out to you because we know how important it is that legislators engage with stakeholders about the realities of the justice system and how pending policies impact Ohio’s children, mothers, and families. Therefore, the luncheon will highlight formerly incarcerated women utilizing clips from “Apart,” a documentary released in 2022 that recently played on PBS, which showcases four women coming home from Ohio's prisons. There will also be additional speakers from our community sharing their experiences.
This luncheon will also build off state-wide momentum created in April during Second Chance Month; will focus on challenges of the cash bail system; and will examine how criminal justice reforms can support healing and restoration through policy reforms like SB 288.
Thank you, and please be sure to register soon!
P.S. - Please note that the ticket price is a recommended rate that will be used to cover catering and costs associated with the luncheon. Please pay what you are able. Any funds raised beyond the cost of the event will be used for ARCH’s advocacy efforts.
